AP2 (Agent Payments Protocol)

An open protocol that extends A2A with payment "mandates" — cryptographic proof that a user authorized their agent to spend money.

The Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) answers the question every merchant will ask about agentic commerce: did a human actually approve this purchase? AP2 introduces mandates — cryptographically signed records of what a user authorized their agent to buy, at what price, and under which conditions. The mandate travels with the transaction, so merchants and payment providers can verify intent instead of trusting the agent's word.

AP2 is payment-rail agnostic: the same mandate model works for cards, bank transfers, and crypto settlement. Masumi aligns with AP2 on the Cardano rail, where its escrow contracts add on-chain enforcement on top of the authorization layer.
